Jonathan Edwards preached a powerful message to ministers back in the 1700’s.  It was entitled the Excellence of a Gospel Minister and his scripture text was John 5:35.  In this passage Jesus referred to John the Baptist as “a burning and shining light”. Edwards’ commentary on this passage is revolutionary.  He said that John was burning with a passionate love for God and his mind was filled with supernatural revelation.  Edwards explained that this is the description of a good preacher of the gospel, a heart inflamed with passion for God and a mind shining with revelation.  This affection for God and understanding of His Word is the work of the Holy Spirit. 

Our goal at Bethesda College is to develop graduates who have this twofold effect of God in their lives. Ministers in love with Jesus and full of God’s word ready to effect our world for Christ.  Our teachers share this two-fold purpose and are committed to the development of ministers experiencing the word and the Spirit in their lives.
